Case Study: Folks Southern Kitchen

Folks southern kitchen

As some of our clients might know, I’m in the processing of moving from my home state of Kentucky down to Florida. While making three trips by car in the last two weeks isn’t the most fun experience, there has been a silver lining: Folks Southern Kitchen in Marietta, Georgia. Tired and exhausted, my dad and I went down to the front desk of the Holiday Inn Express in Marietta, and asked for a quick-and-easy dinner recommendation. The clerk suggested Folks, and as soon as we walked in, we were sold! High Quality Product & Experience On the surface, Folks may seem a lot like Cracker Barrel (of which I’m a big fan). It serves down-home Southern cooking, has a charming country feel, and phenomenal customer service. As much as we like Cracker Barrel, Folks blew the Old Country Store and Restaurant out of the water. Though the restaurant seems to have roughly the same amount … [Read more...]

Will Code.org Be the Key to a New Future?

code dot org

We try not to be preachy here at Content Equals Money. And, if you read our blog regularly, you know we never push other products or services on our readers. So, when I take the time to draw attention to a particular website, I hope you believe me when I say that this thing really could turn our world upside down (in the best way possible)! The website I’m referring to, of course, is Code.org, a site that is dedicated to the belief that: “Every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn to code.” So far, the website has more than 585k supporters, and feel-good snippets from Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Branson, and wildcards like Snoop Dogg and Enrique Iglesias. The Premise Is Simple: We’re Losing Programmers The life of a programmer is not glamorous. It’s not really “cool,” and it definitely doesn’t have quite the same ring as … [Read more...]

Google+ Adds Communities

communities

Adding fuel to the fire mentioned in Patrick’s blog on the Facebook/Google+ fight is the recent addition of Communities to Google+. This new feature seems to purposely mimic and improve upon Facebook’s “Groups” feature, which recently took a turn for the busted when Facebook merged all of its forgotten Pages into Groups, causing a huge problem for users (and, as a Facebook friend of mine noted, possible carpal tunnel for all of the un-followers). Where Facebook seems to lack a coherent strategy with their Groups, Google+ is hitting the social media world hard with an apparent two-fold strategy in their Communities. The Strategy of Community First, Google+ requires moderators for their Communities, meaning that focused and organized conversation can occur with the guiding hand of someone appointed as group leader. Communities range in diversity of topic – from cars, to … [Read more...]

Jill Whalen of High Rankings: Content More Important than SEO to Search Engines

If you know any name at all in the world of SEO and rankings, then you probably know the name “Jill Whalen.” Jill got started on the SEO scene back in 1990 when it was hardly a “scene” at all. In 1995, she launched her own company, High Rankings, which strategizes with hundreds of clients in over 40 industries on increasing traffic, boosting sales, and improving search engine rankings. Jill was gracious enough to share some of her time with us to talk about SEO, content marketing, what’s changed, and what’s stayed the same over the decades. We started off our conversation talking about the relationship between SEO and content marketing. Jill’s response was intriguing. While many experts see the two as closely knit, Jill sees content marketing as a subset of SEO. The SEO & Content Marketing Relationship In Jill’s words, “The more high-quality content your site … [Read more...]

Buy a Mirror: Conversion Lessons Only You Can See

If you don’t make a point of talking to your customers, you should. Your potential client pool will likely share amazing insights about your business or pain points. Wouldn’t you want to know that one thing that makes people choose your service over your competition? Of course you would! Unfortunately, many people would rather just imagine why their customers choose them instead of asking them. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Let’s Start with Website Optimization Last week I used our Total Feedback plugin to ask our site visitors about website optimization. I wanted to know what sort of tools they use to optimize their sites. The response was overwhelming: We don’t optimize. That response might flabbergast you. Anyone who makes their income online should be well versed in site optimization. It’s simple; why not make the most of the people visiting your … [Read more...]
